研究者『英語スラング辞典』と『American Slang』を見比べる・・・

    研究者『英語スラング辞典』と『American Slang』を見比べてみました。

    『英語スラング辞典』は、Richard A. Spears 著『Slang and Euphemism』の邦訳本です。  『American Slang』は、Robert L. Chapman編『American Slang second edition　The Abridged Editon of the Dictionary of American Slang』のこと・・・。

    『英語スラング辞典』は「一般俗語を収録したものではない」そうで、「男同士の下品な話の中から・・・採られた」「禁じられた語」を集めたものであるようです。 一方、『American Slang』の方は、「一般俗語」を集めた辞書、＜a dictionary of current general American slang＞であるようです。

    まだ未着の『With help from McGraw-Hill's Essential American Slang Dictionary』も、＜in the media, at work, around the house, and in everyday conversations＞において使われるslangを集めた英語辞書で、 研究者『英語スラング辞典』の内容とは大きく異なるようです。

    英語辞書は、自分の目で確かめてみないと、その本当の内容は分からない・・・。
